The Opportunity

Ashford Recruitment are proud to bring to the market an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Manager to take responsibility for an established 3-bed children's residential home in Solihull, supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The home is part of an established and growing independent children's care provider, with four children's homes and a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, therapeutic and trauma-informed care.

The home has a settled, permanent staff team with no reliance on agency workers, giving the successful Registered Manager a strong platform from which to lead, develop and continue improving the service.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced children's residential professional who is ready to take ownership of an established home and play a key role in its continued development.

Key Responsibilities

As Registered Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of the home, ensuring that children receive consistently high-quality care within a safe, nurturing and supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the management and performance of the children's home.
  • Ensuring the home operates in line with Ofsted requirements, Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
  • Maintaining strong safeguarding practices and ensuring the welfare of children remains the priority.
  • Leading, managing and developing the permanent staff team.
  • Providing regular supervision, support and performance management.
  • Ensuring staff receive appropriate training and professional development.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, care plans and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring safeguarding concerns, incidents and allegations are appropriately managed and recorded.
  • Working closely with social workers, local authorities, education providers, healthcare professionals and other agencies.
  • Building and maintaining positive professional relationships with placing authorities and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring children receive individualised care that reflects their needs, wishes and feelings.
  • Promoting positive outcomes for children and supporting their emotional, behavioural and educational development.
  • Ensuring care plans and risk assessments are regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Monitoring the quality of care and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Preparing for and supporting Ofsted inspections and monitoring visits.
  • Ensuring the home remains compliant with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Managing staffing levels, rotas and resources effectively.
  • Managing incidents, complaints and safeguarding matters appropriately.
  • Working closely with the Responsible Individual and wider senior management team.
  • Promoting a positive culture based around therapeutic and trauma-informed care.
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety throughout the home.
  • Supporting the recruitment, induction and development of staff.
  • Taking an active role in the continued development and improvement of the service.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced and confident Registered Manager who has a strong understanding of children's residential care and the regulatory requirements surrounding children's homes.

You will ideally have:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience within residential childcare.
  • Previous experience as a Registered Manager, or significant senior management experience within a children's residential setting.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Ofsted regulations, Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience.
  • Experience working with children with EBD and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience managing and developing residential childcare teams.
  • Experience with staff supervision, training and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of care planning and risk assessment.
  • Experience preparing for and managing Ofsted inspections.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • The ability to make confident decisions and take responsibility for the running of the home.
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • A full UK driving licence.
