As a Lecturer of Rail Engineering at Eastchurch, you will play a vital role in developing the next generation of skilled engineers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering engaging and practical lessons to a diverse range of learners
• Training and assessing students to at least Level 2 NVQ standard in Rail Engineering
• Providing support and guidance to help learners achieve their full potential
• Leading on designated study programmes or courses, taking responsibility for the design, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum
• Ensuring that lessons reflect current industry practices and standards
• Contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports all learners

About the role

• Based primarily at our Eastchurch Campus, teaching community and Category D prisoners from Standford Hill on day release
• Some delivery may also take place at our Dover/ Shepherdswell site

Bring your hands‑on rail experience and passion for the trade into the classroom — inspiring others to follow in your footsteps. We’re looking for someone who’s not only skilled in their craft but ready to motivate, guide, and develop the next generation of rail engineers.

In this role, you’ll:

• Plan and deliver engaging, practical, and innovative lessons that bring industry to life
• Assess and track student progress, identifying opportunities for extra support and celebrating success
• Inspire learners to achieve their qualifications and gain the confidence to thrive in the industry
• Teach a range of Level 1 and Level 2 study programmes, adapting your approach to meet learner needs
• Create a positive, professional learning environment that reflects real‑world standards and expectations
• Use your industry knowledge to show learners what success looks like beyond the classroom

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is organised, creative, and confident communicating with people from all backgrounds
• Has a positive, supportive approach and the ability to bring out the best in every learner
• Demonstrates strong classroom management skills and a passion for developing others
• Ideally has experience teaching or training others — but if not, we’ll provide full teacher training and support you every step of the way

Salary notes: there are two salary scale points for our Lecturer positions. All candidates will start at the introductory salary scale point unless certain criteria are met. Lecturers will normally move up to the highest salary scale once one full academic year of teaching for our group is complete. Lecturers must be in post by 1 September in any given year to qualify and this is subject to approval. Therefore, internal applicants in the same role may qualify for the higher salary scale, although should seek clarification.
