We are seeking a dedicated Consultant to join our dynamic neurology department, where you will deliver exceptional clinical, educational, and managerial services at the highest professional standard. Main duties of the job
Join our multi-disciplinary team to deliver a comprehensive acute neurology service. This role involves:
- Providing a daily in-reach Monday to Friday ward referral service and covering colleagues during their absence.
- Maintaining responsibility for patient care, ensuring safe handovers.
- Supervising nurse specialists in collaboration with other consultants.
- Offering prompt consultations to other specialties as needed.
- Collaborating with medical, nursing, and management teams to enhance clinical leadership and patient experiences.
- Engaging in education, research, audit, and clinical governance activities with a focus on a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Contributing to the training and professional development of both medical and non-medical staff, including supervision of junior doctors and teaching sessions.
- Supporting recruitment, appraisal, and mentoring within the team.
- Undertaking additional duties as required, with changes negotiated and reflected in job plans.

Person specification
Qualifications
- MBBS or other recognized equivalent medical qualification
- Membership of the Royal College of Physician (MRCP) or equivalent.
- Inclusion in the specialist register for Neurology, or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
- Full registration with the GMC
- Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Experience
- Fully trained in Neurology.
- At least 2 years substantive previous NHS experience at SpR level (or equivalent).
- Experience of acute neurology
- Management of MS patients and MS service.
- Leading a change or innovation in the workplace with a multi-disciplinary team
- Strategic planning and management of future planning of MS service utilising developing technologies and treatments.
Skills
- Ability to work constructively in a multidisciplinary team, be flexible and responsive to the needs of colleagues and provide team leadership
- Evidence of ability to continuously improve patient and staff experience.
- Ability to manage competing demands in a busy acute environment and cope and manage own emotions under stress.
Leadership and Management
- Evidence of previous active participation in leadership and management activities.
- Experience of managing budgets and staff.
