A fixed term position for 12 months (Maternity Cover) as a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Acute Medicine at St Peter's Hospital.
Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (Flexible working or part time hours would be considered.)
Salary: £50,008 - £56,908 per annum including HCAS.
The Home First Team covers the "front door" of the hospital: Accident and Emergency, Clinical Assessment Unit and Older Persons Assessment Unit. The team aims to improve the interface between acute and community services and the pathway for older adults.
Main duties of the job:
- Act as a specialist occupational therapist to ensure high standards of practice across all areas covered.
- Be responsible for the daily management of the Home First team and enhanced MDT to ensure patient flow.
- Provide highly specialist assessment and interventions.
- Make sound clinical judgements regarding risk-weighted discharge planning within short time frames.
- Expedite discharges in a timely manner, in collaboration with other MDT members.
- Provide education and teaching to therapists and the wider MDT acting as a specialist resource.
- Supervise junior staff and students from both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy disciplines.
- Participate in supporting the 'Front of House' weekend rota.

- Work as an autonomous clinician to undertake a significant specialist clinical caseload and undertake highly skilled assessments of patients with complex problems.
- Utilise clear clinical reasoning skills to adopt a wide range of treatment options and formulate specialised programmes of care and discharge plans.
- Support less experienced staff with their patients.
- Maintain accurate records in line with the College of Occupational Therapy standards and Trust policies.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff.
- Effectively plan the daily management of a caseload of patients and ensure team working.
- Supervise junior and senior staff and therapy assistants where appropriate.
- Participate in the appraisal scheme as an appraiser and to be appraised.
Person specification:
- HCPC registered with required qualifications.
- Experience in Urgent/Acute Care and short stay units as a Senior Therapist.
- Knowledge of patient and discharge pathways within the NHS.
- Robust clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
