About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for a Compliance Manager to work for a Legal firm in Birmingham. This is a newly created role and an exciting time to join the firm. The Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Firm's risk management and compliance frameworks meet all necessary standards and regulations. This includes the creation, implementation, and training of policies, controls, and procedures. This role is crucial in establishing and maintaining a culture of compliance within the Firm, ensuring that all regulatory and ethical standards are met, and facilitating smooth operations through robust governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:
- Culture of Compliance: Promote and embed a culture of compliance throughout the Firm. Provide coaching and guidance to wider teams on compliance standards.
- Onboarding Support: Act as the primary point of contact for the Onboarding team. Address compliance-related queries and offer effective solutions.
- Technical Compliance Advisory: Provide expert advice on compliance issues, including but not limited to: Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Client Due Diligence (CDD), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Conflicts of Interest, Lexcel standards.
- Training and Workshops: Conduct compliance risk assessment training workshops for internal staff.
- Internal Reviews and Audits: Lead internal reviews and compliance audits to assess adherence to regulations.
- Compliance Program Implementation: Advise internal management and partners on the implementation of compliance programs.
- External Compliance Partnerships: Manage relationships with external compliance partners, e.g., SmartSearch.
- Risk Management Strategies: Develop and implement risk management strategies aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Issue Investigation: Follow up on compliance issues that require further investigation.
- Compliance Systems Evaluation: Evaluate existing compliance systems to ensure they are robust and effective.
Skills, Experience, and Attributes:
- Professional Background: Proven experience in Risk and Compliance within a law firm or a similarly regulated environment.
- Knowledge Base: Strong working knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and codes of conduct applicable to law firms, including SRA Standards and Regulations, Data Protection, and Anti-Money Laundering legislation. Familiarity with Legal Aid work and quality standards is advantageous.
- Educational Qualifications: Minimum degree-level education or equivalent; a legal or compliance qualification is preferred.
- Managerial Experience: Previous experience in a managerial or coaching role is highly desirable.
