IT Manager – Contract - £400 p/d - London
Working pattern: Monday and Wednesday in the London office; Tuesday and Thursday half-days, worked remotely
We are looking for an IT Manager or Senior IT Support Engineer to join an established SME on a contract basis to take ownership of their device, identity and security estate. You’ll report directly to the COO and work closely with People, Finance and Engineering teams.
The engagement follows a fixed weekly pattern:
- Monday: Full day in the London office
- Tuesday: Half-day remotely
- Wednesday: Full day in the London office
- Thursday: Half-day remotely
The office-based days are focused on hands-on support, hardware and onboarding activity.
What You’ll Own:
Device Fleet
- Manage the macOS estate through Microsoft Intune, including enrolment, configuration profiles, patching, application deployment and compliance baselines.
- Manage zero-touch provisioning through Apple Business Manager and VPP.
- Own the full device lifecycle, from procurement through to secure wipe and disposal.
Identity, Access & Security
- Configure and maintain Conditional Access and device compliance policies.
- Administer Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID, including SSO, MFA, licensing and least-privilege access.
- Own joiner, mover and leaver processes and access management.
IT Support
- Manage end-to-end IT support through Zendesk, including triage, SLAs and escalation.
- Lead technical onboarding and offboarding.
- Use ticket trends to identify process improvements, recurring issues and opportunities for self-service.
Compliance & Governance
- Maintain and extend ISO 27001 controls across IT.
- Produce the evidence required to sustain accreditation and support client security reviews.
- Help ensure our IT governance scales as headcount grows across the UK and US.
Documentation & Asset Management
- Maintain clear, current IT processes, procedures and runbooks.
- Build and maintain a self-service knowledge base that another owner could pick up and operate.
- Maintain an accurate hardware, software and asset register.
Automation
- Automate provisioning, reporting and routine support wherever it creates meaningful leverage.
- Use automation and AI to help the IT function scale with headcount without scaling cost unnecessarily.
You’ll be someone who:
- Is proactive about security and compliance while remaining excellent at user support and problem resolution.
- Has strong documentation and process-management skills and can balance multiple priorities effectively.
- Is comfortable picking up a running IT function quickly and operating independently from the outset.
- Takes a practical, hands-on approach and is happy to get into the detail when required.
- Looks for opportunities to automate, simplify and improve the way IT operates.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
- Previous contract or interim experience within a startup or scale-up.
- Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 27001 controls.
- Experience with Apple Business Manager and VPP.
- ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent experience.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure security.
