Required from August 2026. Permanent Full-time. Particular interest in candidates with an ability to deliver Engineering at KS4 & 5.

We are delighted to announce a unique opportunity to lead our successful and vibrant Design Faculty where we believe in giving all students an inspirational Design and Technology experience. We aim to create a practical environment that provides the opportunity and support students need to achieve success.

Within this broad suite of design subjects, our offer around Engineering at KS4 & 5 is somewhat of a unique selling point for our school. Therefore, we are particularly interested in candidates who are able to support this area.

The Design and Technology Faculty is staffed with 9 skilled and enthusiastic team members who are passionate about teaching their subject and supported by two technicians who work alongside students in classrooms as well as providing preparation and administrative support. The faculty has outstanding facilities maintaining traditional equipment alongside modern technological developments. Every student has access to ICT with access to a variety of Computer Aided Design software and CNC machines including 4 laser cutters and 10 3D printers.

These facilities are well utilised at KS3 where students complete a rotation of subjects including those outlined below complemented by CAD. Design and Technology at Ashby is a very popular option subject at Key Stage 4 and offers Resistant Materials, Food Science, Engineering and Textiles (through the Art specification). At Key Stage 5 this leads to Product Design 3D, Textiles, Engineering and Food which are again very popular options.

The faculty also offers a range of extra-curricular activities both in and out of school such as engineering trips to the Young Designer Competition and engagement in the F1 in schools' programme. The faculty also offers extra support and intervention for those students not making the expected progress.

The post offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced teacher looking for their next challenge, or an individual seeking to begin their leadership journey in a student and staff centred school. We offer an excellent Continued Professional Development programme for all our staff and are committed to continuous improvement in both teaching and learning within a supportive environment.

We also extend this to support the development of leadership skills for colleagues at all points on their journey embracing the full range of NPQs as appropriate within this progression. We are proud of the work we do at Ashby School: if you are passionate about your subject, share our enthusiasm for teaching and learning, are a skilled team player and are seeking to develop your practice in a supportive and dynamic school, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Closing Date: The closing date for completed applications is 12th May 2026 at 9:00am, with interviews taking place soon after. We might close the vacancy earlier if we find the right candidate.
