We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of English with a passion for their subject and the ability to inspire and motivate students. As a teacher of English, you will work with our amazing students across Key Stage 3 & 4 and also within our large Sixth Form at KS5. You will also be part of our pastoral team leading a form and delivering our morning Empowering to Lear sessions.
English is at the core of life at Ashby School since the ability to articulate ideas and express opinions, both verbally and in written form, are integral components of achievement. The faculty aims to empower and enthuse students in their English education; students will leave Ashby equipped with the tools to communicate confidently and thoughtfully wherever their future may take them. We aim to inspire a love of English in our learners regardless of their ability.
The English Faculty delivers AQA GCSE English Language and English Literature to all students at Key Stage 4 as well as OCR A2 English Literature and Edexcel A2 English Language, although moving into 2026-2027 we intend to change exam boards from OCR (A Level) Literature to Edexcel. We are also a faculty that supports and indeed encourages trips to the theatre, wherever possible, to see live performances of texts studied at GCSE and A Level: in recent years we have been to see ‘An Inspector Calls’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘The Duchess of Malfi’ and were fortunate to take our KS5 cohort to a recent production of ‘Hamlet’ at the Royal Theatre in Nottingham in March this year.
The successful candidate would be joining our large and supportive faculty at an exciting time as we continue to evaluate and review our KS3 provision and adapt to the challenges brought by the recent introduction of Key Stage 3. The English faculty has ten full-time teachers and two part-time teachers, supported by a full-time English tutor. We are also fortunate to have moved into a new £900,000 English block 4 years ago. Our new building provides a dedicated space for the teaching of English, including six bright, spacious classrooms over two floors, most equipped with interactive projectors.
Ashby School is part of the Life MAT and we benefit from collaborative working across all of the MAT schools with an extensive programme of professional and subject-specific CPD. We also look outwards beyond the Trust engaging with local Higher education institutes and providing a package of support to those students in Key Stage 5 who wish to pursue English study beyond Sixth form.
The post offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced teacher looking for their next challenge, or an individual seeking to begin their career in a student and staff centred Academy. We offer an excellent Continued Professional Learning programme for all our staff and are committed to continuous improvement in both teaching and learning within a supportive environment.
We are proud of the work we do at Ashby School: if you are passionate about your subject, share our enthusiasm for teaching and learning and are seeking to develop your practice in a supportive and dynamic school, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Closing Date: The closing date for completed applications is Friday 12th June 2026 at 9:00am, with interviews taking place soon after. We might close the vacancy earlier if we find the right candidate.
Application process: Application forms and further details can be downloaded from Eteach. Completed application forms should be submitted via ETeach. An email will be sent to shortlisted candidates with details of the interview process and the outline of the day. If you have any queries on any aspect of the application or need additional information, please contact the school or send an email via ETeach, where we will be happy to help you. Thank you, and we are really looking forward to hearing from you.
