Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to provide technical leadership and operational support within a manufacturing engineering environment.

The successful Senior Manufacturing Engineer will drive process improvements, support production, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency and product safety.

This role also provides leadership within the Manufacturing Engineering team, coordinating priorities and deputising for the Manufacturing Engineering Manager when required.

  • Role & Responsibilities Of Senior Manufacturing Engineer
  • Provide senior manufacturing engineering support to Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain and Operations.
  • Lead structured problem‑solving activities, including containment, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and effectiveness reviews.
  • Drive Zero Defect initiatives, PFMEA activities and manufacturing risk reduction.
  • Deliver continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, capacity, scrap reduction, cycle time and process flow.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects with clear plans, milestones, risks and escalation routes.
  • Coordinate Manufacturing Engineering priorities, allocate workloads and maintain team progress.
  • Deputise for the Manufacturing Engineering Manager during meetings, customer reviews and technical escalations.
  • Prepare and support Capital Expenditure (Capex) requests, including technical justifications, cost‑benefit analysis and implementation planning.
  • Support Capex projects through specification, supplier engagement, installation, validation, training and handover.
  • Maintain manufacturing documentation, including standard work, routings, BOMs, tooling records, stage drawings and work centre data.
  • Maintain manufacturing master data using SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
  • Utilise Solid Works or equivalent CAD software to support tooling, fixtures and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), design for manufacture activities and engineering change implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to develop robust manufacturing methods and process controls.
  • Support Product Safety activities by ensuring manufacturing risks and controls are effectively managed.
  • Represent Manufacturing Engineering during customer audits, technical reviews and escalation meetings.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing techniques including 5S, waste reduction, standard work and process capability improvements.
  • Ensure manufacturing changes are validated, documented, communicated and effectively implemented.

Requirements Of a Senior Manufacturing Engineer

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • HNC/HND qualifications will be considered with significant experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer within aerospace or another highly regulated manufacturing sector.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, process development, tooling, validation, work instructions and controlled engineering change.
  • Experience leading manufacturing improvement projects from concept through to implementation.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, RCCA, CAPA and process capability improvement.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience using SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
  • CAD experience, preferably using Solid Works.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, Zero Defect methodologies and manufacturing risk reduction.
  • Experience supporting audits, customer reviews, technical escalations and Product Safety activities would be advantageous.
  • CNC milling and turning programming knowledge is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience preparing Capex proposals and investment business cases is desirable.
  • Lean, Six Sigma Green Belt or Project Management qualifications would be beneficial.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills with excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
