As Manufacturing & Inspection Auditor, you will support the Quality team in maintaining robust inspection standards across manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Head of Compliance, this hands-on role will focus on auditing technician and inspector capability, ensuring components are inspected accurately, the correct measurement equipment is used, and inspection processes are followed consistently. The Manufacturing & Inspection Auditor will play a key role in supporting a no-fault-forward methodology, strengthening quality standards, and maintaining product integrity across a low-volume precision engineering environment.
Role & Responsibilities
- Audit inspection work carried out by manufacturing technicians and inspectors to ensure required standards are consistently met.
- Assess individual capability in component inspection, including weekly reviews of new starters.
- Maintain and continuously improve an objective, robust audit process.
- Produce weekly reports summarising audit activity and inspection capability findings.
- Maintain an up-to-date capability matrix and determine individual audit intervals.
- Recommend appropriate audit frequencies based on audit results and any identified quality escapes.
- Support colleagues in the correct use of inspection tools and measurement equipment.
- Provide technical guidance and act as a reference point for inspection and auditing activity.
- Adjust and refine audit plans in response to findings or operational priorities.
- Support Quality and Manufacturing teams through professional, supportive, and accountable working relationships.
- Periodically audit night shift and weekend night shift activity, approximately once per month.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and support a strong Quality culture.
Requirements Of The Role
- Experienced senior inspector of precision-machined components within a batch manufacturing environment.
- Fully conversant with engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
- Strong knowledge of batch machining processes.
- Experience in both product and process auditing.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively while holding individuals accountable for inspection capability and performance.
- Background in inspecting low-volume precision-machined steels and castings is essential.
- Knowledge of gears and gear geometry would be a strong advantage.
- Manufacturing & Inspection Auditor experience within a precision engineering environment would be highly suited to this role.
