We are currently seeking a NVH Modal Test Engineer at a leading Automotive OEM, based in Gaydon.
Responsibilities
- Measure, analyse, and report on vehicle, system, and component modal performance to meet gateway requirements.
- Conduct lab-based transfer function measurements to support NVH attributes and issue investigations (e.g., Transfer Path Analysis for road, powertrain, and simulator teams).
- Undertake detailed correlation work in collaboration with CAE teams, both internal and external, to improve future models and simulations.
- Ensure the Gaydon Modal lab workspace is well-maintained, fit for use, and calibration-compliant.
- Provide support for taskforce activities to address and solve complex engineering challenges related to NVH.
- Maintain up-to-date method statements and processes for modal and systems testing, ensuring best practices are followed.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in a modal testing environment, including setup and use of impact hammer testing and shaker equipment.
- Strong understanding of NVH signal processing and analysis, especially in modal, structural, and transfer function analysis.
- A methodical and detailed approach to planning, recording, executing high-quality tests, and reporting results.
- Ability to effectively present and communicate complex NVH data to stakeholders at all levels.
- Capable of working collaboratively within a small team and providing coaching support to apprentice colleagues.
- Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and propose new methods of work to enhance testing processes.
- Practical ability to carry out basic fitting tasks necessary to set up and instrument tests, including designing new fixtures/rigs that can be fabricated by the workshop teams.
- Experience in providing support for engineering taskforces to solve complex NVH-related issues.
Education
- Degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience in NVH testing and analysis.
