Our client is looking for a Quantity Surveyor with Main Contractor experience to join a steady growing team of professionals. They have a very close-knit team and are big on their team ethos. The company has grown organically year on year and provides an excellent growth opportunity from within. They serve a range of client types and are looking to strengthen their capabilities working for Main Contractors (as well as for homeowners and developers). There is an opportunity for the candidate to assist with the company’s client-side services (for homeowners and developers) as well as their pre-construction services.

Responsibilities:

  • Subcontractor Procurement:
    • Setting up, updating and management of procurement schedules for each project, and chairing procurement meetings
    • Preparing detailed scope of works and/or measured pricing schedules, and/or marked up drawings per package of works
    • Preparing and coordinating tender enquiries
    • Analysing and comparing tender returns
    • Normalising tender returns and raising, coordinating, and dealing with queries
    • Negotiating with preferred contractors
    • Raising subcontract orders
  • Monthly Commercial Reporting:
    • Set up new CVR document for new projects
    • Allocating all costs to appropriate budgets
    • Ensure forecasts final spends are always as up to date as possible
    • Report CVR to commercial manager/director at the end of each month
  • Change / Variation Control:
    • Tracking and identifying changes
    • Coordinating, negotiating and agreeing cost implications of changes with affected subcontractors, suppliers, and operational team
    • Coordinating, negotiating and agreeing value implications of changes with the client
    • Ensuring the change control process is dealt with in accordance with the main contract and subcontracts that are in place
  • Payments:
    • Reviewing and responding to sub-contractor payment applications in appropriate timeframes in accordance with subcontract agreements
    • Preparing and agreeing payment applications to the client in accordance with main contract agreements
  • Contract Management & Administration:
    • Reviewing main contracts, raising concerns and queries regarding terms and ensuring any contract risks, unique mechanisms, and general fundamentals are understood and communicated to the project team
    • Ensuring the contract is administered appropriately by the team and raising any concerns if this is not the case for any reasons so appropriate actions can be determined and undertaken by the business
  • Material Procurement:
    • Extracting relevant specifications and design information
    • Preparing and coordinating enquiries
    • Analysing and comparing tender returns
    • Normalising tender returns and raising, coordinating, and dealing with queries
  • Estimating:
    • Undertaking sub-contract procurement tasks for tenders similar to that described under Subcontractor Procurement
    • Coordinating queries, ensuring all works captured within all tender documentation are included within and added to pricing schedule
    • Preparing measure pricing schedules and estimates for works

Skill Requirements:

  • Proven track record fulfilling the above responsibilities
  • Strong on Excel
  • Strong with electronic measuring
  • Strong communication skills with clients and subcontractors
  • Experience managing more junior staff would be preferable
