Ashbourne College was established over 40 years ago and has since become a centre of academic excellence. For A-level results, Ashbourne is consistently ranked among the top two private colleges in London and overall is one of the leading colleges in the UK. Ashbourne has been rated ‘Outstanding’ in its last two Ofsted inspections, a distinction that is rare among both independent colleges and schools. Last year, almost 63% of our students progressed to Russell Group universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, and UCL.

Ashbourne College now offers an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to teach A-level in one of London’s leading sixth-form colleges. Teaching happens in small groups of highly motivated and well-behaved students who are committed to achieving their very best. Both staff and students receive encouragement and support throughout their time at the college, making Ashbourne a wonderful place to work and learn. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture of collaboration and support, where every member of staff feels valued, inspired, and empowered to give their best.

This role is perfect for candidates who are passionate about their subject and hold high expectations for themselves and their students. While previous teaching experience is preferred, it is not essential. Ashbourne welcomes applicants from a wide range of professional and academic backgrounds, including those new to teaching who are keen to train to teach A-level. We also offer visa sponsorship for eligible overseas candidates applying for full-time teaching roles.

At Ashbourne, we welcome teachers who have yet to gain formal qualifications, providing on-the-job support alongside flexible working arrangements and opportunities for independence and growth. We have a strong track record of nurturing recent university graduates, guiding them as they build their teaching careers and reach their professional aspirations.

Ashbourne is committed to equal opportunities and the safeguarding of all members of our community. We expect all staff to share these values and to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

We believe in supporting our staff with a positive, rewarding work environment and a range of benefits that reflect our values of wellbeing, development, and work-life balance. As a member of the Ashbourne team, you’ll enjoy:

  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Subsidised monthly gym membership
  • Free eye tests – Annual eye care for all staff
  • Enjoy the opportunity to take part in student activities outside of school hours, including overseas trips and recreational events
  • Regular staff social events
  • Company pension scheme
  • Opportunities for wider involvement and accelerated career development
  • Access to professional and on-the-job training opportunities
  • Join a school rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted
  • The College provides a partial subsidy for legal and visa costs for overseas teachers who require sponsorship

Ashbourne applies a salary banding structure based on years of experience. ECTs who successfully complete their first year will move to the next salary band and receive an increased salary accordingly.

Ashbourne is privately owned and independent, not part of any group. The Principal, who is also the owner and a teacher, has a strong understanding of teaching and daily academic activities. Our dedicated administrative team provides excellent support and manages the pastoral care system, ensuring teachers can focus as much as possible on their teaching and helping students succeed. We pride ourselves on a selective admissions process designed to enrol motivated and high-achieving students.

Opportunities to join an outstanding A-level college with consistently high results. Room for professional progression and growth within a high-standard academic environment, with the opportunity to gain ECT and QTS qualifications while teaching at Ashbourne. Opportunity to work with other outstanding teachers who are passionate about their subjects and dedicated to helping students achieve their highest potential. Flexibility to develop and shape your teaching role independently.

At Ashbourne College, we seek a teacher who combines strong subject knowledge with a genuine passion for working with ambitious students. The right candidate will:

  • Be passionate about teaching
  • Be confident in planning and delivering engaging lessons that push and support students of all abilities
  • Have great communication skills
  • Have high expectations of themselves and their students and a commitment to helping every learner reach their potential
