At Engelberg Care Home, we are seeking a Kitchen Assistant or Cook to join our already established team.

Engelberg Care Home is located in Ash Hill in Compton, with 34 modern bedrooms.

We provide a warm, friendly and homely environment focused on delivering exceptional personalised care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation as directed by the Chef.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including washing up and sanitising equipment.
  • Support with serving meals and drinks as required.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Report any maintenance issues, incidents, or accidents to the Head Cook.
  • Prepare and serve balanced, high-quality meals in line with residents’ dietary needs and preferences.
  • Support the Head Chef in menu planning, stock control, and ordering supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene, safety, and HACCP standards.
  • Assist in supervising and training kitchen staff as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment at all times.
  • Adapt meals for residents with modified or specialist diets.
  • Contribute to a positive dining experience that promotes residents’ wellbeing.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen, ideally within a care or hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of dietary needs and nutritional requirements for older adults.
  • Food Hygiene certificate (Level 2 or above).
  • Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a small team.
  • Passion for creating delicious, comforting food that residents enjoy.
