We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly GP practice team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting safe, effective, and efficient prescribing within primary care.
Main duties of the job:
- You will support safe, effective medicines management across the practice by undertaking medication reviews and reconciliation, processing repeat prescriptions, and managing medication queries in line with agreed clinical protocols.
- Working closely with GPs, pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will support patients with medication queries and adherence, analyse prescribing data, complete audits to improve patient safety and cost-effectiveness, and contribute to quality and prescribing improvement initiatives.

Job responsibilities:
- Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
- Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
- Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits.
- Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
- Work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation, including implementing efficient ordering and return processes, and reducing wastage.
- Support practice reception teams in sorting and streaming general prescription requests.
- Support medicines optimisation systems with a range of services to get the best value from medicines.
- Provide training and support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines.
- Develop relationships with other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children.
- Handle prescription queries and requests directly.
- Be an integral part of the general practice team.
- Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
- Participate in clinical audits and research projects and implement changes as required.
- Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements.
- Support in the management of patient complaints when requested to do so.
- Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes.
- Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance.
- Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months.
- There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- GPhC Registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
- GCSE in Maths, English and Science or equivalent.
- NVQ level 3 diploma or apprenticeship in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent).
Experience:
- Evidence of working autonomously or as part of a team, under appropriate clinical supervision.
- Experience of working in a patient facing role.
- Experience of medication safety audit and review.
- Experience working in a Primary Care setting.
- Understanding and knowledge of general practice, QOF, PCN, DES, IIF and enhanced services.
