We are seeking a Building Physics Lead to join our Façade Engineering department, supporting the design and delivery of high-performance façade systems across our UK projects. The role sits within our engineering and consultancy team, which operates as part of a façade business delivering design, detailed engineering, manufacturing and installation of façade systems.
Unlike traditional consultancy roles focused purely on advisory services, this position is embedded within a fully integrated façade delivery environment, allowing performance strategies to be developed alongside practical system design and construction. Working closely with façade engineers, architects and project teams, you will provide specialist expertise on the environmental performance of the building envelope, ensuring façade designs achieve the required standards for thermal performance, moisture control, daylight, acoustics and energy efficiency.
Given the critical relationship between façade performance and fire safety, this role also requires strong expertise in the fire performance of façade systems, ensuring environmental design strategies align with UK external wall fire safety requirements. The position will contribute to projects from early design stages through to construction, helping translate performance requirements into practical and buildable façade solutions.
Key responsibilities:- Lead the building physics input within the Façade Engineering team across multiple projects
- Advise façade engineers and project teams on thermal performance, condensation risk, solar gain, daylight and acoustic performance
- Ensure façade design strategies appropriately balance environmental performance and fire safety requirements
- Carry out or oversee performance modelling and simulations to inform façade design decisions
- Develop and review façade performance specifications and technical documentation
- Ensure façade designs align with UK building regulations, energy performance standards and external wall fire safety requirements
- Work closely with façade engineers and design teams to integrate performance criteria into façade systems
- Review technical submissions from suppliers and subcontractors
- Contribute to internal technical guidance and continuous improvement in façade performance
- Degree in Building Physics, Façade Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar
- Proven experience working on building envelope or façade performance
- Strong understanding of thermal modelling, moisture risk and environmental comfort
- Strong expertise in both building physics and fire performance of façade systems, with a clear understanding of UK external wall fire safety regulations
- Familiarity with modelling tools such as Flixo, Trisco, Insul, Ansys CFD
- Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams
- Willingness to travel occasionally between our offices in London, Moira and Basel
