Hours: 40 hours per week (flexibility required to support occasional early, late and weekend training requirements)

ATL Warehousing & Distribution is a growing third-party logistics provider operating a diverse fleet of Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) across multiple warehouse sites.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated MHE Trainer to take ownership of our site training function at Foston Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about developing people, driving safety standards and creating a skilled workforce capable of supporting the future growth of our business.
Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality MHE training, maintaining compliance, developing internal talent and ensuring operational excellence through effective coaching and assessment.
The Role
As MHE Trainer, you will play a key role in developing ATL's warehouse teams by delivering operator training and supporting employees in gaining additional equipment competencies.
A major focus of the role will be developing operators with existing licences into highly skilled VNA and specialist truck operators, helping ATL build its own talent pipeline and reducing reliance on external recruitment.
Key ResponsibilitiesTraining Delivery
- Deliver novice, conversion and refresher training across a range of MHE equipment including:
- Counterbalance Trucks
- VNA (Man-Up) Trucks
- Powered Pallet Trucks (PPT)
- Port/Tow Trucks
- Deliver training in accordance with HSE ACOP L117, PUWER regulations and ATL procedures.
- Support new starter and agency worker inductions.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to operators across all shifts.
Skills Development
- Lead ATL's Counterbalance-to-VNA development programme.
- Identify employees with potential to progress onto specialist equipment.
- Support workforce planning by increasing operational flexibility through cross-skilling initiatives.
- Work closely with managers to identify skills gaps and development opportunities.
Compliance & Record Management
- Manage all training records, licences and MHE authorisations.
- Ensure operators remain trained, competent and authorised for the equipment they operate.
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation.
- Monitor upcoming renewals and organise refresher training as required.
Safety & Operational Standards
- Conduct operator assessments and refresher evaluations.
- Carry out post-incident assessments and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Undertake regular workplace observations and coaching sessions.
- Support investigations, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the operation.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyse incident trends, damage reports and operational feedback to improve training programmes.
- Work with operational management to enhance standards, efficiency and safety performance.
- Contribute to the development of training materials and best practice procedures.
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Current accredited MHE Instructor qualification (RTITB, ITSSAR or AITT).
- Instructor categories covering Counterbalance, PPT and VNA, or relevant experience with a willingness to gain additional instructor qualifications.
- Previous experience delivering MHE training within a warehouse, logistics or distribution environment.
- Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Excel.
- Excellent communication, coaching and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage training schedules around operational requirements.
Desirable
- Experience delivering in-house operator training programmes.
- Additional instructor categories covering specialist equipment.
- Experience within a 3PL, FMCG or BRC-accredited environment.
- Teaching, assessor or training qualifications.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and competency assessments.
