QBCD is the pinnacle of the British Flat Racing season. Staged each year in October at Ascot, it marks the finale of the season by welcoming the year's topâperforming horses to compete for the UK's richest prize purse. Throughout the year, key races build the narrative and contribute to the storylines that have made QBCD an ongoing success in British sport. Affiliated with this is Club26 â a membership programme offering young racegoers aged 18â26 and under the opportunity to experience some of the country's top race meetings at a discounted rate.
We're looking for an experienced, dynamic and creative Social Media Editor, based in our offices at the racecourse in Ascot, Berkshire. This is a fullâtime, permanent role.
Based at Ascot Racecourse and working collaboratively with the Senior Project Manager â QBCD and Ascot marketing team, you'll combine editorial judgement, digital creativity, and production skills to craft and manage engaging content that celebrates the sport's drama, heritage, and future. You'll oversee and lead on social strategy, content creation, and community engagement across QBCD channels, while also supporting key moments across the Flat season that are relevant to the event. From shortâform video to live event coverage, your work will drive audience growth, engagement, and excitement in the buildâup to QIPCO British Champions Day and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the social media content strategy for QIPCO British Champions Day across all channels (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn).
- Shape an editorial calendar that aligns with key racing moments, QBCD narratives, and campaign objectives â with a strong focus on audience growth and engagement.
- Ensure all content reflects the distinctive QBCD tone of voice and brand positioning.
- Plan, capture, and edit video and visual content that brings Flat racing to life â from behindâtheâscenes stories and jockey profiles to raceday excitement.
- Write compelling copy for posts, captions, and video scripts that connect with audiences across platforms.
- Create and edit a variety of content formats (written, video, graphic, imageâled) tailored to each platform's best practices.
- Lead and manage content shoots, working closely with videographers, photographers, industry stakeholders and agency partners.
- Deliver onâground social coverage at key Flat racing fixtures and media moments throughout the season, particularly QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot.
- Coordinate realâtime posting, storytelling, and fan engagement to amplify live action and behindâtheâscenes access.
- Work collaboratively with the Ascot team to ensure consistent messaging and crossâpromotional opportunities.
- Manage dayâtoâday posting, scheduling, and community engagement, fostering a strong and positive connection with followers.
- Identify and engage with key voices, influencers, and stakeholders across the racing and lifestyle spaces.
- Track audience sentiment and performance metrics to continually optimise engagement and reach.
- Act as the primary contact for external digital or creative agencies, ensuring delivery of highâquality content in line with KPIs.
- Liaise with racing partners, teams, and rights holders to coordinate storytelling and content access.
- Monitor and analyse social media performance across all platforms, providing regular reporting and insights.
- Use analytics to inform future creative and strategic decisions.
- Manage allocated budgets efficiently to deliver maximum impact.
- Proven experience in leading channel management and content creation within the racing industry.
- Strong video production and editing skills, with proficiency in mobileâfirst editing tools (e.g. CapCut, Adobe Premiere, TikTok editing suite).
- A genuine interest in horse racing, sport, and cultural storytelling â and a curiosity to explore its modern audience appeal.
- Excellent copywriting and editorial skills â able to craft engaging, onâbrand narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Confident creating platformâspecific content across all social channels.
- Strong understanding of social media trends, formats, and algorithms.
- Experience with scheduling and analytics tools (e.g. Sprout Social, Later, Monday.com).
- Collaborative and adaptable â comfortable working across multiple teams and fastâpaced live environments.
- Willingness to travel for race meetings and content opportunities (including occasional weekend work, with time off in lieu).
