If so, then a System Engineer role with us might be what you’re looking for. As part of our Professional Services team, you’ll be at the forefront of our business and building solutions that ultimately help our customers provide expert care. The System Engineer implements technical customer solutions on a Customer Site.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities
- Deliver activities as part of Ascom Professional Services, including analysis of requirements, design, installation, commissioning and handover of customer solutions.
- Work on projects to implement technical customer solutions that integrate with existing systems.
- Implement systems according to project description.
- Do an intake of work on-site for project definition when needed.
- Execute small installation tasks on small projects where the task is too small to assign a separate installation engineer.
- Report frequently on project progress to the project manager / Engineering manager.
- Instruct customer on the use of the system/solution when needed.
- When needed take on project responsibility for smaller projects, including requirements analysis, design, installation, commissioning and handover of customer solutions (smaller is defined as max. 1 external party, less than 15K).
- Proactively collaborate with customers on-site and provide consultancy that helps customers to identify best possible additions/options that the customer will benefit from.
- Accountable for the performance of customer satisfaction and lead time of assigned project task KPIs.
- Demonstrate and maintain own expertise on latest technologies and methods through successful completion of training.
- Establish good documentation standards to preserve the traceability and serviceability of delivered products and solutions.
- Interface with customers and peers to collect information needed to perform professional services.
Essential
- A relevant technical qualification in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, telecommunications, or an IT related discipline (e.g., HNC/HND, Apprenticeship Certificate).
- Demonstrable experience in the installation, commissioning, and fault-finding of technical systems on customer sites.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK.
- Proficiency in using IT tools and software for documentation and reporting.
- CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card or equivalent site access certification.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable
- Specific experience with nurse call systems within long-term care and healthcare environments (e.g., knowledge of relevant standards HTM 08-03).
- Experience with pager and DECT (Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) systems, ideally within commercial settings.
- Familiarity with IP-based technology and network configuration (e.g., basic understanding of TCP/IP, network switches).
- Experience working with Ascom bespoke software platforms (specific product knowledge will be advantageous).
- Knowledge of relevant UK regulations and safety standards.
- Manufacturer-specific training or certifications in nurse call, pager, or DECT systems.
- Familiarity with server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server) and database management systems (e.g., SQL) for software installation and system configuration.
Work Experience Essential
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a field service, installation, or commissioning role, ideally working with electronic communication systems.
- Hands-on experience with the physical installation, wiring, and termination of system components.
- Proven track record of successfully commissioning systems on-site, including configuration and testing to meet specifications.
- Experience in diagnosing and resolving technical faults efficiently and effectively, both hardware and software related.
- Experience in providing on-site training and handover to end-users.
Work Experience Desirable
- Specific experience commissioning IP-based nurse call systems in hospitals, care homes, or similar environments.
- Experience commissioning DECT or paging systems in commercial buildings, hotels, or industrial sites.
- Prior experience working with Ascom nurse call, pager, or DECT systems.
- Experience with remote diagnostics and support.
- Experience creating site reports and documentation.
- Experience working directly with clients, managing expectations, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
