Checker in Peterhead

Location: Peterhead (Transport provided between sites)

Duration: Temporary (Approx. June - September)

Work Type: Full time (Hours as per operational requirements)

We are currently recruiting for a Checker to support operations at Aberdeen and Peterhead Quaysides.

Role Overview

The Checker is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient loading and offloading of vessels, ensuring all cargo handling and lifting activities are completed in line with company procedures and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Quayside Supervisor and Chargehand with daily vessel operations.
• Inspect cargo for damage, overloading, certification, and correct labelling.
• Accurately check and record cargo, containers, loose items, and pipe movements.
• Ensure lifting equipment is safe to use and report defects immediately.
• Report discrepancies, delays, and non-conformances using the QMS system.
• Communicate operational issues via radio, tablet, and MS Teams.
• Follow all lifting, safety, and operational procedures.
• Conduct Live Safe Interventions (LSIs) and participate in safety meetings.
• Support and coach OPITO Stage 1 personnel where required.

Key Qualifications

• Lifting Equipment Inspection certification required.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
• IT literate and comfortable using tablets/apps.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• 5-15T Counterbalance Forklift Licence.
• First Aid and Fire Warden training.
• Knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, dangerous goods, and deck planning.
