Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible leadership, ensuring operations are delivered safely, efficiently and cost effectively in line with company standards, customer expectations and legislation.
  • Lead, motivate, coach and develop operational teams, promoting a positive, accountable and inclusive culture.
  • Ensure effective communication with employees, customers, and key stakeholders regarding operational activities, performance and business changes.
  • Maximise profitability through effective planning and utilisation of labour, plant, equipment and operational resources.
  • Monitor operational and financial performance against agreed KPIs and implement improvements where required.
  • Support the General Manager with the annual Operating Plan, budgeting, forecasting, business reviews, tenders, commercial proposals and contract renewals.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth, diversification and development within renewable and critical energy markets.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer, tenant, Port Authority, harbour, regulatory and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Maintain effective operational risk management, emergency response and business continuity arrangements.
  • Ensure contractors comply with company procedures, safe working practices, permits and contractual requirements.
  • Work with Facilities to maximise the availability, reliability and condition of operational assets, equipment and facilities.
  • Support the planning and delivery of CAPEX and OPEX projects, including scope definition, financial justification, procurement, contractor management and completion.
  • Ensure employees are appropriately trained and competent, supporting the development of a flexible, multi-skilled workforce and effective succession planning.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, including reporting, investigation and learning from incidents, near misses and non-conformances.
  • Support Port Facility Security compliance with the ISPS Code and communicate relevant security and operational requirements.
  • Oversee potable water storage and delivery in accordance with Group Operating Procedures and third-party service arrangements.

  • Substantial operational management experience within logistics, ports or the energy sector.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Substantial operational management experience within logistics, ports or the energy sector.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.

Desirable Qualifications/Competencies

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • CILT membership.
  • Lean Six Sigma qualification or experience.
  • Project management qualification, such as APM or PRINCE2.
  • Management or leadership qualification, such as CMI or ILM.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
