Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Manager to join our UK‑based team. Reporting to the Head of Data, this role plays a pivotal part in supporting and strengthening a newly established structure within our data division. This position is ideal for someone with strong data experience and proven delivery capability who is ready to step into a leadership role. You will manage a small team of analysts and be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of data products, processes, and operational commitments. While we do not require years of formal people‑management experience, we expect clear evidence of leadership maturity, such as guiding others’ work, mentoring junior team members, influencing cross‑functional stakeholders, or owning delivery of complex tasks or workflows. You should be comfortable taking responsibility, driving clarity, and ensuring high standards. We will support your development as a people manager, but you’ll already bring the instincts and behaviours of a leader: collaboration, ownership, structure, problem‑solving, and the ability to motivate others through clear direction and communication. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, analysts and data specialists to ensure our data operations run smoothly, accurately, and consistently. This is a balanced role, suited to someone who enjoys being hands‑on with data while also owning people leadership, workflow management and operational delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Team & Delivery Leadership: Oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of data products and operational commitments. Line‑manage, coach and support a small team of data analysts. Lead data triage activities and coordinate a cross‑functional data working group. Foster a collaborative, positive team culture focused on quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Technical & Operational Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and resolve issues across data processes and pipelines. Work with senior analysts, data scientists and stakeholders to understand data requirements. Implement best practices, maintain documentation and contribute to workflow optimisation. Ensure all data is managed with accuracy, diligence, and consistency.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with product, research, technology, and commercial teams. Communicate clearly on timelines, risks, dependencies and data implications. Translate business needs into data tasks, operational processes, and delivery plans.
Your Experience
- Experience mentoring others, coordinating teamwork or contributing to people development.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving and critical reasoning skills.
- Confidence in delegating work, managing priorities and communicating with stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills, including macros/VBA.
- SQL experience (SQL Server, PostgreSQL or similar) for querying and manipulating data.
- Demonstrated experience working with large datasets, data modelling or data operations.
- Strong organisational skills and comfort delivering to deadlines.
- A degree in maths, statistics, data, or a related numeric discipline.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Master Data Management (MDM).
- Knowledge of data warehouse concepts (star schemas, dimensional modelling).
- ETL experience.
- Dashboarding experience (Excel, Tableau, etc.).
Location & Benefits
Location: London office, hybrid working - 3 days in office.
Remuneration: Competitive base salary plus bonus.
Benefits
