About the Opportunity
I'm recruiting a Senior Mechatronics Engineer / Controls Engineer for a fast-growing technology company in Oxfordshire, developing advanced solutions for high-precision manufacturing. Their innovative technology is being adopted by leading equipment manufacturers globally.
The Role
As the Senior Mechatronics Engineer / Controls Engineer, you will report to the Electronics Manager and be the technical expert driving the development and enhancement of precision control systems across a broad range of technologies, including motion control, electro-mechanics, optics, communications, networking, embedded software and vacuum systems. This isn't just theory; you'll be hands-on with equipment, proving performance, solving complex challenges, and feeding learning into future innovations.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Leading technical development of control systems, strengthening existing systems while helping create new solutions
- Applying control theory to shape system and subsystem requirements
- Supporting ultra-precise nanometre-level movements and handling sub-nanometre noise challenges
- Acting as the subject matter expert and knowledge centre for mechatronic control systems
- Planning technical activities and getting hands-on with equipment to prove and validate designs
- Leading failure analysis and feeding forward insights into future developments
- Presenting and documenting clear, engaging technical work
- Supporting applications, manufacturing, and service teams with fault identification and resolution
What You'll Need:
Essential:
- Proven experience developing and fine-tuning precision motion control systems, ideally at nanometre scale
- Track record as a technical lead on Mechatronic Control Systems
- Strong knowledge of Feedback and Feedforward loops and effective application of PID processes
- Experience working with Bode plots, Pole-Zero plots, system transfer functions and stability criteria (time and frequency domain)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as LabVIEW, Python or MATLAB
- BSc/BEng in Physics, Engineering, or similar (or equivalent growth path through apprenticeship and relevant experience)
This role is predominantly onsite, working in a high-tech facility. Salary up to 75K depending on experience, with a bonus, EMI share scheme, private healthcare, 25 days annual leave, death in service, and a 4% pension with salary sacrifice.
