As an IT Business Partner, you will connect IT and the business, ensuring technology initiatives deliver maximum value and align with organisational goals. You will build trusted relationships with business leaders, guide strategic initiatives, shape the technology roadmap, and ensure projects translate into real business outcomes. By turning priorities into actionable IT strategies, you will enable the organisation to achieve its objectives through innovative, effective, and aligned technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities for the IT Business Partner

  • Strategic Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with assigned Business Leaders to understand their strategic goals and priorities.
    • Act as the primary liaison between business units and IT, ensuring that IT strategies align with business objectives.
    • Represent business needs in IT planning and strategy sessions, advocating for initiatives that deliver maximum business value.
  • Strategic Communications & Alignment
    • Enable clear, consistent communication between business stakeholders and IT leadership.
    • Provide concise, executive-level updates on IT initiatives, projects, and changes, ensuring leaders have visibility of progress, risks, and anticipated outcomes.
    • Manage expectations around IT capabilities, delivery timelines, and potential risks while avoiding involvement in day-to-day project execution.
  • Demand Management
    • Create and maintain 12–24 month technology roadmaps that support business priorities, organisational strategy, and available resource capacity.
    • Partner with business stakeholders, IT leadership, and the PMO to ensure roadmap priorities reflect business value, strategic goals, and agreed priorities.
    • Regularly assess business demand, market trends, and emerging technologies to keep the roadmap responsive to changing needs.
    • Proactively identify trends in business growth, digital transformation, and emerging technologies to inform forward-looking roadmap planning.
    • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and IT teams to assess the feasibility, scope, and potential impact of project requests, ensuring all demand is appropriately reviewed before entering the PMO resource planning process.
    • Establish and maintain a governance framework to support effective demand management.
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with demand management activities.
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define expected benefits and success metrics during project scoping.
    • After project delivery, follow up to ensure the business realises the intended value, reviewing outcomes against the original objectives.
    • Identify lessons learned, process improvements, or opportunities for optimisation to inform future initiatives and roadmap planning.

Experience & Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience within a project or business relationship management role.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and vice versa.
  • Problem-Solving: Capability to identify business challenges and find IT-driven solutions.
  • Negotiation: Skilled in negotiating between IT and business units, balancing technical feasibility with business requirements.
  • Business Acumen: Deep understanding of business processes, goals, and the ability to link IT solutions to business value.
  • Project Management: Strong organisational and time-management skills to oversee multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Experience in navigating complex projects.
  • Educated to degree level (high grade) or above.
