Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Birmingham & Nottingham (2 roles)

I'm working with a well-established Global Building Services Consultancy on a genuine growth hire for their Birmingham & Nottingham city centre offices.

Permanent, full-time, 36.25 hours a week, working under a genuinely agile framework.

This isn't a backfill.

They're expanding, and they want someone who can step into Project Leader responsibility on selected projects from day one, attending client meetings and presentations, not building up to it over a year or two.

What you'll be doing

  • Acting as Project Leader on selected projects, and working as part of a wider team on others
  • Attending client meetings and presentations, becoming a genuine point of contact for key clients over time
  • Producing drawings, specifications and calculations, or guiding junior engineers through theirs
  • Raising the technical bar for mechanical engineering across the team
  • Working across healthcare, education, residential and commercial projects, all technically varied and genuinely interesting

What they're looking for

  • Proven mechanical design experience within a building services consultancy
  • Chartered or working towards CIBSE/IMech E, though strong HNC/HND candidates with solid design experience will absolutely be considered
  • In-depth knowledge of low-carbon technologies, heat pumps and renewables
  • Revit or Auto CAD, they're not precious about which
  • Strong communicator, confident attending meetings directly with external clients
  • Happy to mentor and support more junior engineers coming up behind you
  • Must have your own right to work in the UK, no sponsorship on offer

This could also be a strong fit if you've spent most of your career in an internal/in-house role but have regularly dealt with external third parties or attended external meetings, can hold your own at the right level with clients, and are feeling boxed in by the same handful of projects.

If you're after more variety and want to stretch into a consultancy environment properly, this is worth a conversation.

What's in it for you

  • Genuinely agile working, built on trust rather than a fixed WFH day
  • All professional subscriptions and your chartership funded
  • Strong internal technical support network
  • Salary up to 60K + benefits (70K if at principal level)
  • Generous annual leave with the option to buy and sell, plus enhanced sick, maternity and paternity pay

If you're a mechanical design engineer looking for a consultancy that'll actually invest in getting you chartered and trusts you to manage your own time, I'd like to hear from you.
