A day in the life
As a Qualified Instructor on the Basic Flying Training (BFT) Squadron at RAF Valley, you will be part of a small, niche team delivering world-class Ground School and Synthetic training to Military and Ascent aircrew on the Texan T1.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct ground-based instruction of military BFT Student Qualified Flying Instructors (SQFIs), ab-initio pilots following BFT syllabuses covering conversion, instrument, navigation, weapon profiles, tactical, and advanced evolutions.
- Assist in currency training for existing QFIs.
- Conduct Computer Based Training, Computer Aided Instruction, and Simulator training, including ground school lessons and simulated airborne events.
- Perform other tasks related to Texan T1 training as directed.
- Assist in curriculum design as a Texan T1 Subject Matter Expert (SME) in developing and maintaining BFT courseware.
- Participate in innovation work for the future of UK MFTS.
What will make you successful?
You should have previous experience as a Qualified Flying Instructor pilot in a military environment, with qualifications and/or recommendations from the RAF Central Flying School being essential.
Experience in a ‘Basic Flying Training’ role on a turbo-prop airframe is highly advantageous, and experience with synthetic training devices is beneficial but not essential.
Above all, you should excel in instructing students and helping them succeed. You must be an excellent communicator, capable of working with students of varying abilities, in a customer-focused environment that ensures a first-class service.
Additional qualities include:
- Experience in multiple flying disciplines, combining leadership and airmanship.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other teams.
- Strong presentation skills for diverse audiences.
- Ability to develop and update courseware with emerging best practices.
- Engagement with the RAF Safety Culture.
