With a newly acquired UK AOC, Ascend Airways is operating a small fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft (NG and MAX) in the ACMI market, opening its first operational base at London Gatwick in early 2024. The company is part of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) provider, operating a fleet of 221 aircraft on 6 continents.

The group also provides a range of aviation services: MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul), pilot and crew training, ground handling, as well as a variety of associated aviation services. About The Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Controller oversees the daily technical operations of Ascend Airways at the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) at our Head Quarters in Bishop’s Stortford. This role is responsible for managing all technical aspects of the fleet with a primary focus on fleet maintenance requirements, planning and coordination of scheduled maintenance, defect management and AOG recovery.

The Maintenance Controller Is Responsible For

  • Acting as the focal point for day-to-day Fleet Technical Operations, 24/7.
  • Carrying out a daily review of all Aircraft Technical Logs and Cabin Defect Logs, ensuring that documents are up to date and all defects are under control.
  • Requisitioning parts and tooling for Scheduled Maintenance, Defect Rectification, ADD’s and AOG situations.
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager, ensuring that the aircraft is cleared of maintenance and modifications for a specified period.
  • Reviewing and preparing all Aircraft Work Orders ensuring that the latest maintenance data, including ICA’s, are available to the MRO to complete the requested task.
  • Working closely with the Liaison Engineers and the MRO to efficiently manage and rectify all ADD’s while staying within company targets.
  • Updating, distributing, and discussing Aircraft Daily Status Reports with the MRO and Key Ascend personnel.
  • Being aware of the Aircraft Live Status at any given time and informing operations as required.
  • Coordinating AOG Situations at Aircraft bases in the UK and overseas.
  • Informing the Maintenance Manager of possible repetitive defects, coordinating and controlling troubleshooting on repeat defects, ensuring there are no repeat actions taken or repeated ordering of spares.
  • Completing any Department Compliance Control requirements as required.

Ensuring That

  • Technical Occurrence Reports are raised correctly and efficiently to capture any repetitive defects/reliability items and providing additional data to assist Technical Services.
  • Organisation procedures, standards and interfaces are followed and any abnormalities are reported through the correct channels.
  • All arising issues are reported to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Safety and compliance are always maintained to the highest standards.
  • All aircraft technical log entries are returned from third‑party company line stations, ensuring that the technical logs are correctly completed and the entries are accurate.
  • That the Duty Manager or, if necessary, the Technical Director are informed of significant events to enable adequate management oversight of any aircraft rescue or repair.

Requirements

  • CAT A B1 / B2 License preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an aviation environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Boeing 737 NG (Max Desirable).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, My Boeing Fleet and MRO‑PRO.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, structures and materials.
