ASA Recruitment's client, a Public Sector organisation in Edinburgh, are currently looking to recruit a Financial Accountant on a hybrid basis, on an initial 3 month contract (with potential extensions) on a rate of c.£250-£300/day inside of IR35 (based on experience).
The Role
As Financial Accountant (Technical Support), you will be supporting the Senior Financial Accountant in areas like statutory reporting and compliance obligations. You will liaise with the transactions team, systems team and management reporting team for periodic reporting as well as support transactions processing functions related to payables, receivables, cashbook and inventory management. You will provide advice and support to the Senior Financial Accountant and Head of Finance. You will provide professional advice to senior managers and Directors on key strategic financial issues including current legislation and external audit compliance. The role is a hybrid role with an expectation that the role will require to be in the office 2 – 3 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Assist for the timely and accurate management and preparation of the Statutory Accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and HM Treasury Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) along with consolidation pack.
- Assist in the production of the periodic financial progress reports in coordination with related stakeholders with suggestions for improvements. This will include maintenance of reporting tools like dashboards and other published reports.
- Liaise with financial transactions team with regular finance functions including but not limited to payment processing, receivables management, VAT reporting, inventory accounting, reconciliations and cashbook processing.
- Coordinate effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including, as appropriate, government departments, Internal Audit and External Auditors.
- Work with the Unit4 users i.e. the financial management system, to improve current reporting processes and facilitate change as appropriate.
- Assist the review, update and implementation of the manuals, processes and policies in the finance function.
Essential Experience
- Membership of a CCAB professional body (or equivalent).
- Experience of capital accounting and preparation of accurate annual financial statements coupled with a strong technical knowledge of IFRS.
- Technical Knowledge: Detailed understanding of a financial accounting system.
