ASA Recruitment's client, a Public Sector organisation in Edinburgh, are currently looking to recruit 2x AWS Cloud Engineers on a hybrid basis, for initial 12 month contracts (with potential extensions) on a rate c.£500/day outside of IR35 (based on experience).
The AWS Cloud/Platform Engineer will work alongside our client's IT Infrastructure and Cyber Team and will be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimising their Cloud Infrastructure. This is a hands‐on implementation role. The successful candidates will be expected to design, build, and improve cloud infrastructure and automation directly, taking ownership of platforms and workloads post‐migration and driving continuous improvement across their AWS estate.
Essential Experience- Extensive AWS Experience: Deep knowledge of AWS services, with a particular focus on building and managing cloud‐native infrastructure and automation.
- CI/CD Tooling: Proficient in AWS‐native DevOps tooling including CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodePipeline, and Git‐based workflows.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced hands‐on experience with Terraform, using modular, reusable code following best practices.
- Operating Systems: Strong working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server in AWS, including system‐level configuration and troubleshooting.
- Monitoring & Security: Familiarity with AWS monitoring and security tooling (e.g., CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Systems Manager), and implementing controls for operational integrity, and compliance.
- Cloud Architecture Optimisation: Experience designing and optimising cloud architectures for cost efficiency, scalability, and high availability, aligned to AWS best practices.
- Resilience & Disaster Recovery: Experience implementing resilient architectures (e.g. Multi‐AZ / Multi‐Region) and supporting backup and disaster recovery automation aligned to business RTO/RPO requirements.
- Automated Patch Management: Experience designing and implementing automated patching solutions using AWS Systems Manager, including patch baselines, maintenance windows, compliance dashboards, and remediation workflows across mixed RHEL and Windows estates.
- Software & Asset Visibility: Experience implementing centralised visibility of software versions, installed packages, and dependencies across EC2 and container workloads using AWS Systems Manager Inventory, AWS Config, or equivalent tooling.
- Pipeline Security Integration: Experience embedding vulnerability scanning and compliance gates into CI/CD pipelines, including integration with tools such as Amazon Inspector or equivalent dependency scanning tooling.
- Database Platform Support: Experience supporting database workloads in AWS, particularly Oracle on RDS, including backup, patching, and connectivity patterns.
- Shared Services & Multi‐Account Operations: Experience operating within a multi‐account AWS environment including shared services account patterns, centralised logging, and cross-account resource access.
