The HGV Driver Mate plays a key role in ensuring that the customers' (store) orders arrive safely and securely to their scheduled destination to meet daily deadlines. This role will report to the Transport Team Leaders at Southern Region Distribution Centre and you will work collaboratively with HGV Drivers.

A typical day in this role includes:

  • Working collaboratively with an HGV Driver to help deliver our products to stores in a safe and secure way.
  • Physically transferring products in secure cages and totes from the delivery vehicle to store locations.
  • Supporting with a variety of tasks which may include map reading, loading and unloading, assisting an HGV Driver with any challenging maneuvers.
  • Ensuring that all stock being delivered is clean and undamaged; reporting any issues to your Line Manager.
  • Being professional and friendly during interactions with store teams or members of the public.
  • Working collaboratively with the team to actively reduce shrinkage or theft of stock.
  • Keeping the work area clean and tidy by adopting a “Clean-As-You-Go” discipline.
  • Assisting the Operational Team in all aspects of Health and Safety and reporting all accidents/incidents/near misses immediately to your Line Manager.

  • Excellent time and attendance record.
  • Good teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work one on one.
  • Always demonstrate and maintain a high level of health and safety awareness around the warehouse, ensuring own safety and the safety of others.
  • Adopting the ASW, H&S Values: Always Safe at work; think smart, think safe.
