We are seeking an experienced Senior PUWER Safety Assessor to join our team and lead the delivery of high-quality PUWER inspections and machinery safety assessments across a range of industrial environments. This is a senior role suited to a competent professional with extensive hands-on experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to work independently while mentoring others.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed PUWER inspections and machinery safety assessments in line with UK legislation and relevant standards
- Identify non-compliance, hazards, and risk levels associated with work equipment
- Produce clear, accurate, and legally robust PUWER reports with practical recommendations
- Advise clients on compliance solutions, guarding, interlocks, and safe systems of work
- Interpret and apply relevant standards (e.g. PUWER 98, HSG129, ISO 12100, EN standards)
- Support and mentor junior assessors where required
- Liaise professionally with clients, duty holders, engineers, and site management
- Keep up to date with changes in legislation, guidance, and best practice
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a PUWER Safety Assessor (senior level)
- In-depth knowledge of PUWER 1998 and machinery safety legislation
- Strong understanding of industrial machinery, guarding systems, and risk assessment methodologies
- Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple assessments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma or equivalent
- Machinery safety or functional safety qualifications
- Experience across multiple sectors (manufacturing, engineering, logistics, etc.)
- Previous experience training or mentoring assessors
