The Role: We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT team, supporting a complex and evolving technical environment. This is a hands‑on, technical role where you will act as the go‑to expert across infrastructure, supporting critical systems, resolving complex issues, and guiding colleagues across the team. No two days will look the same – you’ll balance day‑to‑day operational support with project work and continuous improvement activity. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our infrastructure across on‑premise and cloud environments, while working closely with internal teams and third‑party providers. This includes translating technical detail for stakeholders, challenging external vendors where needed, and ensuring the right solutions are implemented for our environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, taking ownership, and being a trusted point of expertise within a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the go‑to subject matter expert across infrastructure, supporting complex investigations and providing guidance across both infrastructure and application teams.
- Provide 3rd line support across infrastructure services, including servers, networks, and core platforms.
- Maintain and support Windows and Linux server environments, ensuring system stability and proactively resolving issues.
- Carry out regular maintenance and updates across infrastructure components, including switches, firewalls, and cloud‑hosted services.
- Support and troubleshoot a range of core systems and enabling technologies, including access management, proxy services, and business‑critical applications.
- Collaborate with third‑party providers (including cloud vendors), building effective working relationships and challenging solutions where appropriate.
- Translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non‑technical stakeholders.
- Support and mentor 1st and 2nd line engineers, acting as an escalation point for complex issues and knowledge‑sharing lead.
- Contribute to project and improvement work, such as infrastructure upgrades (e.g. firewalls) and system enhancements.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, including cost‑saving opportunities within cloud environments.
- Ensure infrastructure is maintained in line with security and organisational standards, supporting business continuity and resilience.
- Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation across infrastructure services.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Strong hands‑on experience supporting Windows and Linux server environments within live infrastructure environments.
- Experience operating at a senior or 3rd line level, supporting and resolving complex technical issues.
- Good understanding of infrastructure fundamentals, such as networking (e.g. firewalls, switching, connectivity) and core platforms.
- Experience managing and maintaining core infrastructure components (e.g. servers, storage, networks, and platforms).
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure environments, or similar cloud platforms, in a practical support or engineering capacity.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across multiple systems and technologies.
- Experience working with third‑party vendors, with the confidence to collaborate effectively and challenge solutions when needed.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers, acting as a point of escalation.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience with AWS or other cloud environments, particularly in supporting or reviewing infrastructure.
- Exposure to a range of infrastructure architecture concepts (ability to understand how systems interact end‑to‑end).
- Experience supporting access management tools, proxy services, or similar enabling technologies.
- Exposure to enterprise applications or platforms (e.g. CRM systems, ERP systems) from an infrastructure perspective.
- Scripting, automation, or continuous improvement mindset (e.g. PowerShell or similar).
Minimum Criteria:
- Proven experience working in a hands‑on infrastructure role, supporting live systems (not purely managerial or oversight‑focused).
- A strong foundation across infrastructure technologies, such as servers (Windows/Linux), networking, or cloud platforms.
- Experience resolving complex technical issues, with the ability to work independently and take ownership.
- Exposure to Microsoft Azure (or similar cloud technologies) within a practical environment.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and confidently to a range of stakeholders.
- Comfortable working as part of a team, supporting others and contributing technical expertise where needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel to the Swansea office two days per week.
- Eligible for, or willing and able to obtain, Security Clearance (SC) (including meeting UK residency requirements).
Benefits Include:
- Discretionary Annual Bonus – recognises and rewards your individual contribution to the company’s success.
