This 4-week summer legal internship offers a unique opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the legal considerations that underpin major construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects around the world.
During the Internship
- As an intern in Arup's in‑house Legal team, you will see how legal advice supports the delivery of highly technical, multidisciplinary projects.
- The Legal team's involvement spans from early project strategy and procurement through to contract negotiation, risk management, and delivery.
- You will be embedded in a collaborative professional environment, working alongside solicitors and paralegals who support Arup's engineers, designers, consultants and project teams across a broad range of markets and jurisdictions.
Practical, Hands‑On Exposure
- Assisting solicitors and trainees on legal issues relating to a broad range of engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects, both in the UK and internationally.
- Experience drafting and reviewing contractual and commercial frameworks used to deliver major projects.
- Exposure to both contentious and non-contentious work.
- Supporting the Legal team on advisory, contractual and dispute-related matters.
- Conducting substantive legal research, including analysis of relevant legislation, case law and industry guidance.
- Insight into risk management, professional liability, and insurance considerations.
- Understanding how legal advice supports collaboration between engineers, designers, planners, economists and other specialists across the business.
- Exposure to the adoption and responsible use of AI, including advice on AI-related risks, mitigation tools, and how the Legal team uses AI to improve efficiencies and ways of working.
- Gaining a practical understanding of the day‑to‑day role of an in‑house legal team embedded within a global organisation.

- Currently studying towards, or have recently graduated from, a university degree in law.
