Watch this part of the clip! The opportunityWe are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest in building services, sustainable design and multidisciplinary collaboration. You will contribute to mechanical design across a range of projects, supported by experienced engineers as you build technical judgement, design skills and progress towards chartership. You will join our growing Building Engineering team in Southampton, working with colleagues across the South Coast, the UK and internationally on new build, retrofit and refurbishment projects. The team combines engineering, design and advisory expertise in a collaborative, technically ambitious culture.
ResponsibilitiesUndertake mechanical calculations and analysis for heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water and plant/distribution systems. Prepare design information, sketches, schedules, technical notes, reports and specifications with senior support.
Contribute to thermal comfort, energy and sustainability analysis, using modelling outputs to inform design.
Support Revit models, drawings, spatial coordination and other design deliverables.
Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop coordinated, maintainable design solutions.
Attend design meetings, record actions and communicate progress, risks and support needs clearly.
Support site stage activities, including visits, inspections, queries and reviews, with guidance.
Take part in design reviews, skills networks and CPD to develop technical knowledge and professional qualification.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
Working towards professional qualification through CIBSE, IMechE or another relevant body.
Developing understanding of mechanical building services, including heating, cooling, ventilation and domestic water systems. Interest in sustainable design, energy efficiency, carbon reduction and operational performance. Ability to produce clear calculations, drawings, schedules and written outputs with support.
Developing knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry good practice.
Familiarity with tools such as Revit, IES, Hevacomp, Excel or similar.
Good communication, curiosity, attention to detail and commitment to professional development.
Desirable skills and knowledgeExperience on new build, retrofit or refurbishment projects.
Use of thermal modelling or building performance tools with senior support.
Interest in low-carbon heating and cooling, natural ventilation, heat pumps, heat networks or retrofit decarbonisation.
Basic understanding of BIM coordination and clash resolution.
Placement, graduate, site or consultancy experience.
