About this career opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced leader in the field of social value to shape and grow our social value advisory services across the UK to clients across the built environment sector. You will be industry-facing, representing Arup’s social value offer in the marketplace, act as Project Director on social value focused advisory projects and lead social value input into multi-disciplinary teams on nationally significant major projects. Our clients work in the built environment, and range from major UK developers, infrastructure providers to central and local government.

Sitting within our Climate and Sustainability Services portfolio, you represent Arup’s social value offer both internally and externally, building our market presence and awareness of our offer, working with other leaders in the business to ensure we have the right skills to put social impact and community need at the heart of our projects. You will work closely with your counterparts in Arup’s other regions, especially Europe to help achieve our global ambition and raise the profile of social value and equity across our business.

Our current offer includes developing social value strategies, designing social value measurement and reporting frameworks, undertaking local needs analysis to inform an outcomes-based approach to projects and carrying out a range of assessments to inform project design including Equality Impact and socio-economic assessments. We\'re delivering this currently on some high-profile projects such as the British Library Extension in London, SESRO reservoir and the Great Grid Upgrade.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people with:

  • University degree or preferably a master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, such as sustainable development, economics, social sciences or planning.
  • Experience of leading and developing market-leading social value / impact programmes working in a client-facing, advisory role (or equivalent).
  • Leading successful social outcomes-led approaches on projects at different scales, across several of our priority markets of energy, water, transport, property, local government / cities. Developing compelling social value strategies at a project and corporate level, built on an understanding of communities\' needs and priorities.
  • Developing and implementing social impact measurement and monitoring processes, including using and adapting a wide range of social value tools and frameworks
  • Leading strong client and stakeholder relationships at senior levels, both externally and internally. Successfully developing and implementing business development / Go to Market strategies. Identifying new market opportunities, leading work winning activities including experience of leading bids.
  • Project leadership roles, focused on achievement of commercial, quality and client satisfaction performance indicators. Leading specialist teams, managing and coaching senior team members.
