The Opportunity

Our risk, security, and resilience practice has been helping organizations understand their exposure to threats and make better risk-informed decisions since the mid-1990s. Our team of experts serves as trusted advisors to private and public-sector clients, providing strategic risk management, technical risk assessment, operational planning, security engineering, and counter-terrorism design measures tailored to their needs. You will join Arup as a Senior Consultant within our technical safety, risk, and reliability engineering team, focusing on sustainable development across various markets and industries. You will be a technical specialist, instrumental in developing our business by promoting our service offerings and growing our team of Technical Safety, Risk, and Reliability consultants. Your projects will range from advisory to engineering solution-based technical safety and risk studies across different project lifecycle stages, such as research & development, feasibility, concept, and detailed design.

Your role will be client-facing, building and fostering relationships through project delivery and work-winning. You will guide project teams to advise clients and find improved ways to deliver solutions. Collaborating with other technical domain experts in multidisciplinary teams, you will address the unique challenges faced by our clients. You will be passionate about managing technical safety, risk, and reliability to prevent failures and embed resilience in our advice and solutions, contributing to a safer, more reliable, and sustainable future.

Is this role right for you?

In this role, you will provide technical safety and risk management on sustainable development projects across various markets and industries. You will advise and conduct technical safety and risk studies such as hazard identification, hazard management, functional safety assessment, failure modes and effects analysis, fault tree analysis, fire, explosion, toxic release hazard analysis, modeling, safety evaluations, safety management, and safety case development. You will facilitate risk-based workshops with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineers to identify hazards collaboratively. As a senior team member, you will also manage projects, mentor junior consultants, and perform peer reviews and technical due diligence studies.

Requirements:

• Experience managing and delivering technical safety and risk management projects, including client relationship management and business development.
• Proven experience leading technical safety and risk assessments in regulated industries (e.g., chemical, nuclear, railway, built environment).
• Competency in risk analysis techniques such as hazard identification, hazard management, functional safety assessment, failure modes and effects analysis, and fault tree analysis.
• Background in safety assessment across the lifecycle (feasibility, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance) of complex systems, infrastructure, or major hazard facilities.
• Understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines (e.g., DSEAR, ATEX, COMAH, RIDDOR, NFPA, API, IFC, CSM RA, ROGS).
