Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. You will be joining Arup’s Belfast Transport team, which is expanding to support the region’s ambition for greener, more inclusive mobility. The team delivers work across sustainable transport, active travel and major road schemes, supporting clients including the Department for Infrastructure, Translink and local authorities across Northern Ireland and the wider island of Ireland.
Our projects range from strategic transport programmes and statutory processes to urban improvements, public realm enhancements and locally led transport initiatives. We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary transport infrastructure projects across their full lifecycle — from concept and tender design through detailed design, construction integration, commissioning and handover.
This role is intended for a senior professional with demonstrable experience influencing executive stakeholders, shaping strategic outcomes and leading high‑performing project teams. You will act as the engineering and project delivery focal point between design teams, construction partners, supply chain and client stakeholders, ensuring safe‑by‑design solutions, buildability, cost and programme certainty, and compliance with standards and contractual requirements.
The role includes leading Design & Build delivery, resolving technical and site‑based issues, managing change control and supporting high‑quality handover. In addition to delivery leadership, you will play an active role in mentoring junior colleagues, developing client relationships, identifying and securing new work, and contributing to the growth of Arup’s transport offering in Northern Ireland and beyond.
This position provides a strong platform for progression into broader senior leadership roles, with exposure to executive governance, strategic decision‑making and organisation‑wide influence.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?
- A degree‑level qualification and Chartered status (CEng) in engineering, construction or a related discipline
- Proven experience leading Design & Build transport infrastructure projects from tender through construction and handover
- Strong project and design management capability, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams in design and/or construction environments
- Demonstrable experience working in a client‑side project management role, managing cost, programme, risk and change control
- Sound commercial and contractual awareness, including experience administering NEC construction and professional services contracts
