Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our established Civil Engineering team in London. Our team is part of Arup’s Energy, Water and Resources (EWR) South group of approximately 130 engineers and technicians. Civil engineers here are generalists with experience across multiple technical skills and strong integration and collaboration behaviours. We seek engineers with skills in utilities, drainage design/modelling, pavement, civil structural, water treatment, flood management, site development, external works, coordination, energy transmission, coastal management, etc. Clients include architects, water companies, energy suppliers, local authorities, developers, D&B contractors, government agencies and transport system owners and operators. We work across all project stages, from initial concept through to construction support.
Reporting to the Civil Engineering South Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, planning resources and monitoring commercial performance
- Leading the civil engineering design on projects, including preparation and review of technical deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications and presentations
- Producing bid documents and supporting business development activities
- Contributing to a culture of technical excellence and developing technical skills within the wider team through initiatives and training
- Embracing our Culture, Equity and Inclusion strategy and influencing others
- In due course, line‑managing a small number of technical staff (engineers and technicians) including appraisals and performance development
Qualifications
A highly motivated individual with Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status in a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE or equivalent). The following will help you succeed:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (typically MEng, BEng or MSc) or similar
- Strong technical background in one or more civil engineering specialisms (earthworks, roads and streets, public realm, utilities, flood risk and drainage) and an interest in complementary aspects of infrastructure development such as sustainability, carbon management or resilience
- Experience with design tools including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Bently 3D AECOsim, Microdrainage and GIS
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to collaborate confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage a complex and varied workload involving multiple concurrent projects
- Track record of successful project completion in the UK and/or internationally
- Ability to motivate and lead others
- Commitment to design excellence and continuous quality improvement
