Arup\’s Security Advisory stream provides services both across the region and worldwide as part of Arup’s global Resilience, Security & Risk offering. The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Consultant in Aviation Security to join the Security Advisory practice in our Resilience, Security & Risk team based in the UKIMEA region.

You will work alongside others in our aviation security team and with clients in the aviation sector to develop our aviation security offering, in partnership with other subject-matter experts from resilience, security & risk and design team members.

You will assist clients in evaluating and managing security risks in the design and operation of airport infrastructure, including management of engagement with regulators and other stakeholders, to develop solutions that address aviation security risks and other design and operational criteria.

The role will see you:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the strategic direction for our aviation security service offering;
  • Working extensively with and in front of clients in the aviation sector across the UKIMEA and in other regions (notably Europe) to understand their needs and to partner with them in the development and implementation of proportionate, sustainable and innovative solutions;
  • Working onsite at client airports.
  • Contributing to the development of a pipeline of fee-earning work in aviation security and being involved in all aspects of project and commercial management.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

The successful candidate will be a well-credentialled, technically excellent and inspiring leader with either a qualification in security risk management, political science, international relations, terrorism studies or an engineering discipline or significant demonstrable experience in aviation security at a strategic level.

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • A professional qualification with a relevant recognised body e.g. Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES), ICAO AvSec PM, Chartered Security Professional (CSyP) or Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC).
  • A track record in professional services consultancy or similar client / site facing role where you have been responsible for advising on security matters.
  • The ability to convey complex technical information and concepts clearly and to all levels of an organisation – with a particular focus on conveying information to non-experts and excellence in report-writing, oral communication and visual presentation skills.
  • The ability to assess and evaluate physical and personnel security risk through threat, vulnerability and risk assessment effectively, and to develop proportionate, sustainable and innovative solutions to treat and manage risk that also answer to other design and operational criteria.
  • Experience of, or interest in, some of the following: security governance, behavioural science, personnel security, study of hostile reconnaissance, deterrence communications and insider risk.

While AvSec experience is strongly preferred it is not essential. This role would suit someone with a solid physical security background who can undertake risk assessments, site surveys and security analysis and who is used to working within infrastructure design.

Please note – the role will require the successful candidate to obtain a UK SC Clearance.
