Arup has a long track record in the UK water industry, working with all the major water companies, risk management authorities, and government agencies. In the current procurement round for the AMP8 frameworks, Arup recently secured major commissions with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Southern Water, Thames Water, and United Utilities. The Opportunity

This role involves leading the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs, and treatment facilities. You will undertake concept, outline, and detailed design, provide construction support on various infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes, and manage multidisciplinary teams. Coordination with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities is essential. The role ensures compliance with environmental, health and safety, and CDM regulations, supports mentoring junior engineers, and promotes knowledge sharing. Additionally, it contributes to innovation in sustainable design, climate resilience, and digital engineering practices.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

  • Qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with ICE or equivalent, or working towards it.
  • Demonstrable experience in the water sector.
  • Familiarity with BIM is desirable.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
  • Experience working with UK water utilities (e.g., Thames Water, Welsh Water, Severn Trent) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of AMP cycles and regulatory frameworks (e.g., Ofwat) is a plus.
