Arup is recruiting a Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Fluvial Geomorphologist to join our River Basin Management team within the North geography (Newcastle upon Tyne, Stockton‑on‑Tees, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, York). The team is multidisciplinary, featuring ecologists, landscape architects, carbon specialists, sustainability specialists and engineers. Digital solutions are increasingly important, and experience in this area is an asset. The role focuses on Nature‑Based Solutions and enhancing resilience through climate change mitigation and adaptation. You will provide technical input on projects in the UK and abroad, contribute to research and development, and help deliver new research initiatives. Business development responsibilities include bid writing, client engagement, marketing material development, and marketing initiatives. You will also manage projects and lead team activities.
Is this role right for you?
- BSc and/or MSc in geography, environmental science, engineering or a related discipline. PhD is desirable.
- Expertise in Fluvial Geomorphology and River Basin Processes, River Restoration/Renaturalisation, Geomorphological Analysis and Design, Water Framework Directive assessment and Natural Flood Management.
- Demonstrated technical experience; ideally chartered or close to being chartered with a relevant professional institution.
- Understanding of river basin hydrology and hydraulic modelling is advantageous, as is experience modelling geomorphological change.
