The Opportunity: We deliver power system studies for renewable generation developers, datacentres, private wire networks and transmission and distribution utilities in the UK and globally. These studies are part of larger multi‑disciplinary design commissions. Our High Voltage team in Manchester, Birmingham or Bristol will carry out grid connection studies for offshore wind (HVAC and HVDC), solar PV, BESS, hydro, green hydrogen, data centres and decarbonised industrial demand. Tasks include complex dynamic and electromagnetic transient studies in industry‑standard software and delivering cutting‑edge innovation to help drive the energy transition through resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

Is this role right for you? We are looking for a senior candidate holding at least a MSc, MEng or BEng in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Power Systems or a similar discipline. Preferably you are a Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership with the IET.

Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in carrying out power system studies, including steady‑state, dynamic and transient studies at transmission and distribution voltage levels, evaluating system performance and recommending technical solutions.
  • Detailed understanding of GB grid code compliance requirements for new connections and demonstrable experience in applying these.
  • Extensive experience using industry‑standard software packages such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, EMTP‑ATP and others to build, analyse and verify power system models.
  • Experience performing power quality assessment studies, including Engineering Recommendations G5/5, P28 and P29.
  • Engagement with stakeholders including TOs, DNOs, clients/customers and other engineering packages.
  • Leading technical project teams to deliver packages of power system studies.
  • Provision of technical assurance for studies.
  • Mentoring and supporting early‑career engineers.

Additional Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Capability in DPL, Python, or other scripting languages.
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment, managing projects and preparing bids.
  • Knowledge of grid codes in the EU and other countries.
