On behalf of Arup, we are looking for a Civil Engineer for a 12 months contract based in Manchester. Please note that this role is going to be hybrid with a mix of 3 days/week working from the office and the remaining days working from home.
Purpose of the Civil Engineer role:
You will be involved in the planning, design and delivery of complex civil engineering solutions for hyperscale data centres, grid reinforcement schemes, substations, transmission infrastructure and associated development works. These projects are at the forefront of investment in the UK and require innovative, sustainable and resilient engineering solutions.
As a Civil Engineer you will be:
- Supporting the design and delivery of civil engineering solutions for data centre and electricity transmission infrastructure projects
- Developing site layouts, drainage strategies, earthworks designs, access arrangements and utility coordination solutions
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated and sustainable engineering designs
- Producing technical designs, drawings, calculations and reports to a high standard
- Engaging with clients, stakeholders and project teams to develop practical and innovative outcomes
- Taking ownership of defined elements of projects, including checking the quality and accuracy of your work
- Contributing to the continued development of digital engineering, BIM-led delivery and data-driven design approaches
The skills you'll need:
- Experience in civil engineering design and project delivery
- Knowledge of relevant design standards, guidance and industry best practice
- Experience delivering site development, utilities, energy or major infrastructure projects
- Experience using design software such as Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, AutoCAD or similar packages
- An interest in digital design, BIM and/or automation within engineering delivery
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- A proactive and adaptable approach to problem solving
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- A relevant postgraduate qualification would be beneficial but is not essential
- Progression toward or achievement of professional chartership (ICE or equivalent) would be advantageous
