You will be joining Arup’s Transport Planning team, a multidisciplinary group of transport planners, engineers, mathematicians, data scientists and geographers who provide a core part of Arup’s offer. We work with a wide range of clients across the public and private sectors, supporting the development of new infrastructure, enhancing existing transport systems and shaping travel demand management strategies that influence behaviour and outcomes.

Strategic transport modelling sits at the heart of this work, providing the evidence base for scheme feasibility, business cases, appraisal and environmental assessment.

The Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Senior Transport Modeller to help shape and grow Arup’s strategic transport modelling capability. This role offers the opportunity to apply deep analytical thinking to complex transport challenges, supporting evidence‑based decision‑making and the development of robust business cases. You will work within multidisciplinary teams as a strategic transport modelling technical lead, specifying, designing and delivering modelling work across a range of client contexts. The role focuses on developing high‑quality strategic models, interpreting outputs, and forming clear, compelling narratives that communicate complex insights to diverse audiences.

Alongside technical delivery, you will contribute to client engagement, proposal development and capability growth, support junior colleagues, and work with teams across the business to apply transport modelling principles to specialist areas of Arup’s work. There is a strong pipeline of work across national, regional and local clients, providing opportunities to influence the direction of modelling practice and help shape future transport solutions.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you? We are keen to hear from strategic transport modellers who are motivated by insight, quality and influence. You are likely to bring:

  • A passion for developing and communicating deep and valuable insights
  • In‑depth experience developing and applying strategic transport models, using tools such as SATURN, VISUM, EMME or CUBE
  • Strong understanding of DfT Transport Appraisal Guidance (TAG) and its application to appraisal and business cases
  • The ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly, forming narratives that support decision‑making
  • Experience supporting others, contributing to proposals, and delivering work to time and budget
