Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Our Energy Geotechnics team plays a key role in supporting the global energy transition, delivering innovative ground engineering solutions for offshore wind, transmission infrastructure and other major energy developments. Bringing together geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, geophysicists and digital specialists, we help clients understand complex ground conditions and manage risk from early site investigation through to design and delivery.

To support Arup’s continued growth in offshore wind and transmission infrastructure, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with offshore cable installation experience to join our Energy Geotechnics team in London. In this role, you will deliver geotechnical engineering solutions and proactive technical advice for clients, with a particular focus on inter-array cables, export cables and interconnectors. You will contribute to technically challenging projects across the full lifecycle, from early site investigation and cable routing through to design, installation and delivery.

This is a client-facing role where collaboration, clear communication and a strong understanding of client needs are key. You will work on projects across the globe, supporting major developers and collaborating with colleagues across Arup, as well as external partners and research institutions. You will have the opportunity to apply your offshore cable and ground engineering expertise to complex energy infrastructure challenges, while continuing to develop your technical, commercial and project leadership skills within a supportive and forward-looking team.

We are keen to hear from people with a strong interest in transmission infrastructure and geotechnical engineering, who enjoy collaborative problem-solving and are motivated to keep developing their expertise. We are looking for people who:

  • Have experience in the installation of marine electrical and telecoms cables, using current industry standards and guidance.
  • Can interpret ground investigation data to inform cable routing, design and ground risk management.
  • Have knowledge of marine engineering for offshore cables across offshore, nearshore and landfall transition environments, with a focus on ground condition risks.
  • Bring a numerate approach to problem solving, with coding capability such as Python, or similar, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS.
  • Are Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body, with strong commercial awareness and the ability to lead projects, support clients and share knowledge with junior colleagues.

Experience of turnkey engineering procurement contracts for HV cabling and recent offshore cable installation experience, from tool selection through to vessel-based delivery, would be advantageous.
