The Opportunity
We are seeking a driven and motivated individual who has a real passion for human factors and its application to multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy environment to join our team in either Birmingham or London on a hybrid basis! You will be expected to apply specialist skills on a range of exciting client projects, across relevant sectors such as rail, aviation and energy and help to grow the business and skills in this area. You will be joining a supportive, knowledge-sharing team that values curiosity, rigour, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, with opportunities to contribute directly to projects led by our People and Organisations (P&O) advisory practice.
The key elements of the role will include producing and overseeing human factors work outputs of a high technical quality, while supporting the delivery of packages of work, commercials and general consultant activities. You will be working directly with our clients and engaging with a range of stakeholders within Arup to help influence other disciplines to understand the importance of human factors. Another aspect of your role will be supporting business developing activities such as attending client meetings and writing proposals.

Is this role right for you?
We are seeking an individual with prior knowledge, skills and experience in the area of human factors within a consultancy environment. This will include knowledge of the following human factors methods: task and workload assessment, cognitive ergonomics, physical ergonomics, environmental design and organisational behaviour. Experience is also preferred in user experience, control room design and operations, behavioural safety and human factors integration and behavioural change.
At Arup we have flexible hybrid working arrangements (min. 2 days in an Arup office) with travel to client sites as required.
Requirements:
- A background working in a consulting environment in the area of human factors.
- Familiar with working in high hazard operational sectors such as rail, aviation and energy (a range of sector experience is preferred).
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (preferably psychology, human factors or systems engineering but not essential). MSc in occupational psychology or human factors is preferred.
- Either chartered/registered, or working towards becoming chartered/registered, with the British Psychological Society or Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or be Certified with the Association for Business Psychology.
- Effective at building client relationships.
