Joining Arup is an independent firm, owned in trust by our employees. Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. This may be as a direct output of the project or where we can influence our client’s direction in a beneficial way.

Arup’s Science, Industry, Healthcare and Data Centre Team is a global network of Architects, Engineers and Specialist Consultants working with the largest and most innovative businesses across each sector. Our clients include developers; retail and wholesale colocation providers and the major hyperscale cloud services providers, pharmaceutical companies, universities and research institutions.

Our London team delivers SIT projects globally including HV substation design, placing innovation, sustainability, decarbonisation and excellence at the heart of our designs. At Arup, you will belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

The Opportunity: As part of this exciting opportunity, we are seeking an experienced Chartered Electrical Engineer who will join the leadership of our team as an Associate. You will be guiding and coordinating the design of various projects, from inception through to construction, providing technical guidance and design management. This will include collaborating with colleagues from all over Arup in the delivery of multi-disciplinary designs.

With experience in MEP design, you will have the self-assurance to lead your engineering discipline, as well as the ability to take a leading role on projects coordinating the overall Arup project team. Mentoring and development of junior colleagues as part of the electrical discipline leadership will form a core responsibility. You will contribute to recruitment, appraisals and the performance, development, morale, and motivation of members within the team.

You will have the opportunity to act as Project Manager, responsible for the resourcing, commercial delivery and success of the project. Contribute to winning work by taking a role in the preparation and presentation of bids, and liaising directly with clients. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you? We’re looking for a candidate who can demonstrate:

  • You are an enthusiastic engineer who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams and taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results across some or all the following sectors: Science, Industry, Healthcare and Data Centres.
  • You are a Chartered Engineer with experience in the field of Electrical Engineering and have a broad range experience in systems and installations, ideally including HV substation design.
  • Actively support the performance, work and development of others, providing guidance, training, and motivational and directional feedback.
  • You should have commercial awareness, client-facing skills and be able to represent Arup externally.

What We Offer you: At Arup, we care about each member’s success, so we can grow together. Guided by our values, we provide an attractive total reward package that recognises the contribution of each of our members to our shared success. As well as competitive, fair and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.

We are owned in trust on behalf of our members, giving us the freedom, with personal responsibility, to set our own direction and choose work that aligns with our purpose and adds to Arup’s legacy. Our members collaborate on ambitious projects to deliver remarkable outcomes for our clients and communities. Profit Share is a key part of our reward, enabling members to share in the results of our collective efforts.

We also provide Private medical insurance, Life assurance, Accident insurance and Income protection cover. In addition, you’ll have access to flexible benefits to help you look after all aspects of your wellbeing and give you the freedom and flexibility to find the best solutions for you, your family, and your individual needs.
