Working with a wide range of public and private organisations, we transform the way they plan and deliver their projects to achieve better projects with more sustainable outcomes.
We are supporting major rail projects across the UK to embed carbon management into their design, procurement and construction projects - including for TransPennine Route Upgrade and for Northern Powerhouse Rail - supporting design development, route selection, and mitigation of GHG emissions at asset level. We support consenting processes for major developments under EIA and DCO regimes, such as UK-Europe interconnectors, sustainable fuel manufacturing, major reservoir projects, and wide-ranging upgrade projects for the UK’s electrical grid. We also link our work to wider environmental and social appraisal - for example working with offshore wind developers and planners to embed more robust social value, circular economy, and carbon management into leasing processes.
Shaped by our engineering heritage and informed by our wide range of complementary technical skills, our multidisciplinary approach allows us to tackle the most complex sustainability challenges and deliver impactful results.
The Opportunity: We are looking for a Senior Consultant in carbon management and assessment for a range of projects which might include developing Net Zero strategies and action plans; sustainability supply chain management; or environmental impact assessment for major infrastructure projects and other development. We are looking for someone who acknowledges our passion for shaping a better world and will help to develop and deliver our carbon and climate change services bringing technical expertise delivering consultancy services.
The role can sit in any one of our eleven offices across the North and key accountabilities will include:
- Undertaking carbon assessments and providing advice on decarbonisation;
- Running carbon workshops with developers and design teams;
- Whole life carbon assessment for a range of infrastructure and energy projects;
- Undertaking technical reviews of others’ carbon modelling;
- Bringing knowledge to reinforce advice on carbon management to external and internal clients.
You will also support the team in business development activities such as preparation of expressions of interest and proposals, networking and client engagement activities. As Senior Consultant you will develop and convey your knowledge in carbon and climate change in the development of our services and the skills of others. You will be curious about the links between national policy on climate mitigation, economic growth, and wider sustainability benefits and will bring your own distinctive skills and knowledge to support the delivery of new services to our clients.

Qualifications: Bachelor or master’s qualification in a relevant field, such as Carbon and/or Climate Change Management, Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science (with appropriate and relevant knowledge). Appropriate chartership or working towards – e.g. Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv, CEng).
Desirable: Knowledge in carbon assessment and modelling including development of mitigation strategies. Appreciation of UK and/or devolved administration policy and regulatory framework for carbon and climate.
