You will join the Resources Business within the Land and Maritime team. This is a newly formed and exciting team looking to incubate new business offerings in sustainable and regenerative management and land and coastal regions.

The Opportunity

Arup's Land and Maritime team in Sheffield delivers integrated land and coastal management solutions. We advise our clients on the sustainable management of land and water across the landscape, from catchment to city centre scale. Within this team we are incubating and developing new services which help clients understand land‑sea interactions and provide long‑term, resilient, Nature‑based Solutions (NbS) to managing land and coastal regions. This role will see you work as part of a team to provide hands‑on input to our projects, producing technical reports and presentations to convey complex concepts, and to influence clients and stakeholders. You will liaise with colleagues in other areas of the business in a variety of disciplines and interact directly with our clients. Day‑to‑day duties will involve attending and contributing to project meetings (internal and external) and undertaking assistant/project management roles on projects with a view to develop this skill further.

As an incubator business, you will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of our work, and projects which aim to take a longer‑term, more sustainable approach to responding to sea‑level rise, adaptation to climate change and extreme events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (but ideally a Master's) with a specialism in Sustainable Land or Coastal Zone Management/Restoration or Coastal Geomorphology; this may include Earth Sciences or Geography.
  • Knowledge of sustainable land and/or coastal management techniques, Nature‑based Solutions, remote sensing (earth observation), physical coastal geomorphological processes, data handling and manipulation. The candidate may have knowledge of some, but not all of these areas.
  • Experience in GIS and/or remote sensing.
  • Interest in sustained learning, curiosity and developing new areas of business.

Desired Attributes

  • Passion for sustainable development and creating a better world.
  • Critical thinker who embraces new ideas and challenges the status quo.
  • Growth mindset, always eager to learn and explore new ways of working.
  • Adaptable and ready to take on any challenge.
  • Ability to start this opportunity in September 2026.
