About Arup Foresight: Arup’s Foresight team delivers thought leadership, insights, strategy, and innovation on the future of the built environment. Situated within the wider Arup University group we help Arup and our clients deliver excellence by engaging people in strategic conversations about change. We are a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, engineers, architects and designers that help our clients understand change, identify emerging opportunities, and future-proof their business. From envisioning the future of mail and parcel logistics to researching the future design and operations of a city district, we answer complex questions that require a broad and holistic look at the future.
The Opportunity: Business, sector, and market analysis is an integral part of our strategic advisory for both internal and external clients. This includes our thought management programmes, the development of unique insights on the future of the built environment and appreciation of change within a specific sector or market. The successful candidate will have a background in economics, consulting and/or research in order to:
- conduct research on markets, sectors and industries;
- identify and describe strategic trends and themes;
- develop concise briefings and presentations for senior stakeholders;
- work with a wide range of internal and external clients to develop and deliver high-quality insights.
You will have a good comprehension of relevant techniques and approaches to segment sectors, companies, and markets, be able to find relevant data on industry trends and projections and evaluate the data and create meaningful insights for senior stakeholders. This person should be a self-starter, able to work as part of a team, have a positive attitude and be willing to share ideas and knowledge.
Responsibilities:
- Promote the delivery of foresight products, projects, programmes through data;
- Deliver work packages and manage service requests objectively from conception to final delivery;
- Create reports, presentations, briefings, and dashboards, where possible using data visualisation platforms and tools;
- Gather and evaluate secondary data to create meaningful insight for senior stakeholders;
- Be accountable for the management and evolution of external and internal research and data tools and platforms.
Is This Role Right For You? The successful candidate will play an integral part in helping the team to deliver regional and global foresight projects and programmes. They will help build and grow our capacity and skillset around market research, business/sector, industry trends, data-run insights, and general business analytics. Candidates are likely to come from an economics, consulting and/or research background, with exposure in the research of markets, sectors, policies, or businesses. We are interested in speaking to people who have:
- An interest in foresight and futures thinking;
- Hold a relevant qualification in the built environment, foresight, management, business;
- Skills in a variety of quantitative research methods;
- A background in economics, market research, business/sector, industry trends/forecasts, data;
- Good exposure to data and visualisation tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, R or Python;
- Ability to capture and convey insights in a clear and succinct way including for senior stakeholders;
- Be curious and excited to explore new topics, tasks and opportunities.
